About the Bed and Breakfast

History of the Bed and Breakfast

Old Fashioned Suite

The Louisville Bourbon Inn is a luxury bed and breakfast located at 1332 South Fourth Street in the heart of historic Old Louisville. It offers the premier luxury lodging experience along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Housed in a beautifully restored Victorian mansion, the Inn is a destination in itself, known for its Southern charm, elegant accommodations, and warm hospitality.

While it was originally built in the late 1880’s as a single-family home, the Mansion has been a bed and breakfast for more than 35 years. It was originally known as the “Inn at The Park,” because it is adjacent to Louisville’s Central Park. New owners purchased and renovated the Inn in 2001 and kept the name until the City Of Louisville changed its liquor laws to allow a bed and breakfast to serve alcohol. In 2006, it was rebranded as the Louisville Bourbon Inn.

Like many in the hospitality industry, the Inn faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and remained largely unoccupied in 2020. In 2021, Ellen Stauffer purchased the Inn with a vision: to renovate, reimagine, and rebuild it into a thriving, turnkey business. With the help of her son Kenny, a professionally trained chef, Ellen dramatically increased occupancy and elevated the Inn from #10 to #2 on Tripadvisor’s list of Louisville B&Bs.

Wonderful Breakfast at the Louisville Bourbon Inn

In 2023, the reins were passed to new owners Jeff Ochs and Allen Mitchell, who moved from Columbus, Ohio to continue the transformation. Guests quickly took to their gracious style and top-tier service, affectionately dubbing them the Dynamic Duo of Hospitality. Allen’s Southern hospitality and culinary expertise, and Jeff’s warm, guest-focused approach solidified the Inn’s reputation for excellence.

Their efforts were quickly recognized. In 2024, the Louisville Bourbon Inn was named the #1 bed and breakfast in Louisville and among the Top 15 in the U.S. by Tripadvisor’s “Best of the Best.” It was also recognized as Louisville’s top-rated hotel by Top-Rated.Online.

In 2025, Tripadvisor once again awarded its “Best of the Best” award to the Louisville Bourbon Inn for the best-rated bed and breakfast in Louisville. And then went one step further, naming the Louisville Bourbon Inn as the #1 Bed and Breakfast in the United States! The inn also received the Quality Business Award for Best Louisville Bed and Breakfast in 2025.

Also in 2025, the Inn’s signature breakfast earned national acclaim, winning the First Place People’s Choice Award at the prestigious Gravy Cup for its biscuits and gravy.

Today, the Louisville Bourbon Inn continues to receive 5-star reviews on Tripadvisor and Google, praised for its stunning architecture, impeccable cleanliness, modern amenities, and unforgettable breakfasts. Most of all, guests rave about the welcoming spirit and genuine hospitality of the owners.

Whether you’re exploring the Kentucky Bourbon Trail or planning a romantic getaway, you’ll see why the Louisville Bourbon Inn is consistently ranked as the best place to stay in Louisville.
