About the Kentucky Bourbon Trail

About the Kentucky Bourbon Trail®

Travel the Trail Custom Bourbon Tours

In 1999, the Kentucky Distillers’ Association launched the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, inviting visitors to experience the art, science, and rich history of bourbon-making firsthand. What began with just seven distilleries has grown into a world-famous journey and one of Kentucky’s top tourist attractions.

Today, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail features nearly 60 distilleries across 27 counties, along with 28 Craft Distilleries organized into four distinct regions: Northern, Central, Western, and Bluegrass. Whether you’re exploring historic producers or innovative newcomers, each stop offers its own unique flavor and story.

As bourbon tourism boomed, distilleries expanded their offerings with self-guided tours, guided experiences, world-class tasting rooms, and interactive exhibits. With so much to discover, many visitors choose to explore just a handful of distilleries at a time, making every trip a one-of-a-kind adventure.

The Kentucky Bourbon Trail now draws more than 2.5 million visitors each year, with 80% traveling from outside Kentucky. Beyond its cultural significance, bourbon fuels a $9 billion economic engine and supports over 23,000 jobs in the Commonwealth.
